Welcome to 'Smithery' where nature, colour, light and design come together through the ancient art of jewellery enamelling and mixed media art.
I hope the joy I get from making these pieces also lights a spark within you and has you marvelling and revelling at the wonders found in the world in which we live. My inspirations are infinite and vast, but the never ending discoveries found within the hues, tones, depths and shades of the colour spectrum fuel my desire to keep me exploring and creating.

Who am I?
Hi, my name is Caroline Smith and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I've been working creatively with my hands for as long as I can remember and have an insatiable need to keep learning. My foray into enamelling began when I found a very old kiln in our garden shed, a relic from my husbands grandfather. I fired it up, gave it a go and was completely hooked, I haven't looked back since.

Make a statement and stand out from the crowd.
Each piece is unique and cannot be replicated exactly, though should you see a pair you like but prefer a different colour-way, I can certainly try and fulfill your request.

What is enamelling?
Vitreous (glass) enamelling is a process of melting ground glass onto metal. This process is achieved by using either a kiln or blow torch. Great heat of 750*/850*c melts glass onto your chosen metal, often copper, silver and gold in jewellery making, to create a fused, hard glass surface that offers endless design possibilities.
